2012 Ride from Reno Day 1

Except for lots of head and side winds and having to rack up the bikes because of road construction on Geiger Grade (and even worse on the downhill bit) it was a good day. A bit warm in the afternoon but that was off set by a great lunch break. There are a dozen of us riding together this year. Makes for more fun on the road. I did well on the climb up Geiger Grade but Steve Kelly did spectacular. He has remade himself this last year into a lean cycling machine.

Today I dedicate my ride to my Aunt Ruth. Ruth was that favorite family aunt. She was full of life, fun to be with, would travel any where at the drop of a hat and loved by everyone. She loved to see new things and make new friends. My sister Deanna and I had several grand trips with Aunt Ruth. One of the most memorable for me was three weeks in the UK when the Tour of France started in London. What fun that was! Just a few months ago Ruth was diagnosed with cancer. It turned out to be very aggressive and unstoppable. We laid her to rest just a few weeks ago in Idaho Falls. Aunt Ruth would have loved being along for support. And she will always be in our memory.

My stats for the day:
Time on the bike: 7:52
Miles ridden: 152
Feet Climbed: 6619
Calories burned: 6014
KOM on Sand Mountain Pass

Thought about you all day on your ride. Think of Aunt Ruth all the time, too. It’s great to have you out there riding for the cause! Have a great day!
