Day 2 – Mike

Well, the only thing that didn’t happen today was snow. It is interesting to note that head and wind are both four letter words. The last twenty miles it rained and rained and rained. It was probably the most painful day I have ever had and finished. But, it was still better than being in the infusion room. We could not get going at all when the day started. Headwinds and new chip seal really set the tone of the day. Then, headwinds, headwinds, and more headwinds really set the tone of the rest of the day. I was in the saddle turning cranks for over eight hours today. Eight hours. But it was better than going for radiation treatment.

I need to note that Taylor was awesome today. I am so proud of him and it was awesome to see him go up the hills and work hard and do his best. What a great day. I know that no one fromm Bountiful Mazda will really believe this, but Larry pulled the last forty miles of the day. Wagonmaster Larry is awesome. He worked so hard, his cadence got above 55 two times today and his heartbeat got above 110 once.

Judy Peterson and my father in law Jim Warren were awesome today. We could not do ridiculous things like today without the SAG wagon. Thank you seems so hollow, but I appreciate all the work.

I could not have finished today without a sick amount of perserverance. To those fighting cancer, quitting is not an option. It was great to see the spirit overcome the physical and demand more. You can always do more than you think you can.

I am going to go now, I need to spend some time with Miss Wiggles. If you don’t know what that is, I will explain later. Tomorrow holds five more climbs starting at the driveway of the hotel and going forty miles east of Ely. Feel free to check the profile and say a prayer for my legs. I expect hate mail from my legs will start early and occur often.
