Day 1 minus 2 – Larry

Ride from Reno Day 1 minus 2 (or Ride TO Reno)
The plan was to leave Centerville 10 to 10:30 it was almost 11AM before we were on the road.  With in 30 minutes we were parked on I-80 just a couple of miles west of Salt Air.  The traffic had come to a dead stop on the freeway in both directions and we could see a cloud of smoke off in the distance.  There we sat for over an hour.   An east bound pickup had swerved to miss another pickup, rolled and came across the freeway through an emergency vehicle turnaround and smashed head on into a triple trailer FedEx truck going west and everything went up in flames.  Finally they told us the road would be closed for hours, removed a cement barrier and sent us back the way we came.   Mike had this plan that we would go south to Lehi, then back around to Stockton and Tooele and to back on to the freeway west of where the accident had occured.  After a lunch stop in Tooele it was 3:30 by the time we got back on I-80.  It wasn’t long before we passed trucks that we were stopped by earlier in the day, trucks that had waited for the freeway to open.  We had not saved any time by going around, but it was OK because some of us had never been on those roads and it gave the ‘nerves-Nellys’ something to do besides set and wait.  We later found out the truck had been carrying live ammo that started to go off in the fire.  Well, at midnight we got to our room in Reno.  This is going to be an interesting trip.
